In response to a tragic loss of life of a colleague in January 2020, Thornton & Ross united in its desire to act with a positive response to this appalling incident. Roger Scarlett-Smith, the Executive Vice President UK / US, committed to creating a fund to support charities working to prevent young people from becoming caught up in knife crime.
A recent charity golf day held at Crosland Heath Golf Club raised £20,000 for the fund and the company is very grateful for the support of its employees, suppliers and partners who stepped forward to not only play in the tournament, but also to bid for a range of unique items at auction.
The event was supported by the West Yorkshire Mayor Tracy Brabin, local MP Jason McCarthy, Deputy Mayor Alison Lowe, and Alan Travis, Chief Inspector of Neighbourhoods & Partnership.
Thornton and Ross chose to partner with One Community on this initiative because they recognised the expertise and service offered would help them achieve a greater impact and would provide excellent Due diligence when deciding which community groups to support.
Over the past year, colleagues at Thornton & Ross have continued to come together to fundraise in support of One Community. From golf days to raffles a united cause has helped to galvanise the support needed to have a great social impact locally.
“Working with and supporting local charities involved in knife crime and youth engagement initiatives, which have measurable outcomes, is something which is very close to all of our hearts”. -Thornton &Ross.
In August, we had the pleasure of Co-hosting an award ceremony where we heard from each charity that will benefit from the fundraising, and from Roger Scarlett-Smith, the EVP UK/USA of STADA Group. Each group was presented with a cheque by Emma Woods-Bolger of One Community Foundation Kirklees at the Linthwaite site.
It was fantastic to meet the charities and hear how the funding will be put to good use and benefit our local community. It really brought our Purpose of ‘Caring for People’s Health as a Trusted Partner’ to life. -Roger Scarlet-Smith
