A bit
about us

How one community works as an organisation

We’re a Community Foundation for Kirklees. This means we do things a little differently. We use our community connections to identify local need through community engagement, relationship-building and collaboration. Then distribute core funding and project funding to local charities and community organisations.

Core funding covers the running costs of local charities and community organisations. It keeps the lights on, pays salaries and helps with day-to-day operations. Core funding is the most effective way to support community organisations and is often the hardest area to get funding for.

Helping local philanthropy thrive

We’re a member of UK Community Foundations – a group of charities, just like us, who use place-based funding to distribute local grants. Our network distributes £77 million of funding annually and together has Endowment Funds worth over £580 million. All members are accredited by the United Kingdom Community Foundations and approved by the Charity Commission.

Our history

In 2010, Community Foundations were popping up across the UK. We were inspired. And One Community was born. Since then, we’ve spread £2 million worth of goodness throughout Kirklees. Our Endowment Fund has grown to £3.6 million. Over 200,000 people have benefited from our responsible fund management.
