Yorkshire Youth & Music work to improve young people’s wellbeing through the exploration of music and art. They had been successfully delivering their “Music of Tomorrow” project for young people across Kirklees which encouraged the attendees to build their confidence, make new friends and develop their musical skills, in a safe and welcoming environment.
Yorkshire Youth & Music received three grants in total from the Dewsbury Moor Fund to run their musical youth group at Dewsbury Moor Sports Club, located in the heart of Dewsbury Moor. They initially ran a pilot programme, delivering taster sessions at Westmoor Primary School to introduce the children to their workshops and encourage them to come along. Attendees were able to use their music production equipment such as DJ decks, keyboards and guitars to explore music together at their own pace, regardless of ability. They have a group of regular attendees who love the sessions and have formed new friendships together, giving the young people of Dewsbury Moor a safe place to socialise and enjoy music together.
Music delivery from Yorkshire Youth and Music staff continues at Sand Park Youth Club on a Tuesday night. Participants have access to the DJ Decks, that were purchased as part of the initial project, along with additional instruments that are being loaned to the youth club by YY&M including – keyboard, guitars and a drum kit.
