Do you live in North Kirklees? Are you passionate about creating positive change? We’re on the lookout for a new trustee to join our dedicated team at One Community. 🤝✨ We are keen to hear from people who live in North Kirklees, as a grantmaker for the whole of the Kirklees area we are keen that our Board is representative of the geographical reach of our grantmaking.

As a trustee, you’ll play a vital role in shaping the future of our charity, contributing your skills and expertise to make a lasting impact on the community we serve.

Trustees can be of all ages, backgrounds, abilities, cultures, experiences and views.

In fact, we believe a diverse group of trustees can help the charity to see options and problems from different perspectives, and so help us to make better decisions.

What we’re doing

•Always looking for ways to diversify our executive team and board.

•Making sure our grants panels are made up of members, community partners and donors from different groups within our community.

•Raising awareness through webinars, explaining the application process and offering support to underrepresented communities.

Being a trustee is a fantastic way to contribute to your community and make a difference in disadvantaged people’s lives. You’ll develop strategic management, collective decision making and other valuable skills, and you’ll grow in confidence.

We’re facing an exciting and challenging future and it would be great if you could be part of it.

Core qualities required in a Trustee

1. Be committed to the purpose, objectives, and values, and supportive of the values and ethics of the Charity.

2. Understand and accept the legal duties and be eligible to serve as a charity trustee according to charity commission rules.

3. Be able to express own opinion and participate in collective decisions and stand by them, working collaboratively in the interests of the Charity.

4. Be constructive about staff, volunteers’ and other Trustees opinions and contributions to decision making processes.

5. Act with reasonable care and skill in undertaking trustee duties and performing tasks.

6. To understand and declare potential conflicts of interest and work with other trustees to manage them.

7. To maintain confidentiality on sensitive and confidential matters.

8. Understand the importance of meetings, and be committed to preparing for them adequately and attending them regularly.

9. Be able to read papers, analyse information and, when necessary, ask questions and/or challenge constructively.

10. To understand and respect the boundaries between executive and governance functions – the difference between managers and trustees.

11. To adhere to Nolan’s seven principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.
