Purpose of Life Case Study

In the past year, the cost-of-living crisis has been hard on many families, and we’ve seen an increase in applications looking to support them during this difficult period. Purpose of Life was awarded funding to continue their work on the Yorkshire Foodbank.

The aim of the Yorkshire Foodbank is to provide support to at-risk people, and the homeless in a way that fosters communities and works to improve self-esteem and wellbeing of vulnerable people.

Purpose of Life looked into the needs of the most vulnerable, and considered the potential issues faced when reaching out to a food bank. As part of their plan, they incorporated a delivery service for their most vulnerable clients.

We wanted to offer a different service to that provided by most foodbanks, and for that reason we operated a delivery service, so those that find it a challenge to get to the foodbank due to ill health or lack of transport can get the food support they need delivered directly to their homes.

The project went beyond food parcels, but also looked at the needs of those most affected by the cost-of-living crisis. In addition to food, the service provided hygiene packs, including sanitary products, as well as a much-needed delivery service for those unable to travel to the foodbank.

After their funding, the group has continued to provide support to homeless and vulnerable individuals, even providing a monthly dinner event. these events are a chance for at-risk individuals to enjoy a hot 3-course dinner, and an evening of conversation, warmth and community.
