Whether it was a hot meal or food parcel left on a doorstep One Community Foundation acted quickly during the Covid pandemic to support the most vulnerable people locally. We have awarded over £300,000 to more than one hundred local charitable organisations tackling food insecurity right here on our doorstep.
The funds we were able to provide made it possible for local charities and community projects to supply over 100,000 emergency food parcels.
One of those organisations was The Welcome Centre in Huddersfield, their CEO Kate Aucker who told us “The early days of the pandemic and ‘lockdown’ posed some unique challenges at The Welcome Centre, not least the immediate closure of our centre and warehouse, with consequent drop off in donations of goods”.
“The need for crisis food support shot up immediately by 46%, and we provided the equivalent of 35,142 meals in April alone”!
“One Community Foundation provided us with financial support which enabled us to quickly buy the food supplies that our clients so desperately needed. As always, any questions we had were immediately answered and the application process was very straightforward; freeing up our time to get on with vital work”.
“Funds arrived quickly from One Community too which allowed us to purchase in bulk and get better value for money. This was the immediate and robust response that we needed, and we are incredibly grateful for your support”.
