the Community Foundation for the people of Kirklees.

The Hirst Brierley Fund

We believe that looking after our environment can have a real impact on the quality of life for local people. This Fund is therefore dedicated to improving the local environment - whether that means turning a piece of wasteland into a garden or organising litter picking days. We will look to fund projects that improve the physical environment in a way that also benefits the wider community.

This fund was established to support environmental projects across Kirklees. Grants are invited up to £1,000. The available funding will support project and equipment expenditure, and running costs.

Some examples of supported activity include:

  • Tree planting
  • Salary costs
  • Purchasing wild flower seeds and planting expenditure
  • Obtaining equipment, (spades, trowels, etc.)
  • Purchasing peat free compost
  • River clean-ups
  • Improvement works, tree thinning, removal of non-native species
  • Purchasing bat and bird boxes
  • School environmental projects and learning activities
  • Forest Schools
  • Land and river management
  • Wildlife surveys

This fund will open again on June 1st and close for applications on June 30th 2021.
