Huddersfield Giants Community Trust Ltd

Huddersfield Giants Community Trust (HGCT), the official charity of the Huddersfield Giants Rugby League Club, plays a pivotal role in improving lives across Kirklees and neighbouring areas through sport, health, and education programmes. Operating from its community hub, The Zone, HGCT delivers activities that promote inclusivity, wellbeing, and lifelong learning.

A flagship success is its Cheerleading & Gymnastics programme, attracting over 300 weekly participants of all ages and abilities. With expert coaching and an open-door ethos, it creates an environment where anyone—regardless of skill level—can thrive, fostering both physical and personal development.

Building on this, HGCT launched a 39-week Cheerleading & Dance project in Dewsbury Moor, specifically designed to increase opportunities for young women and girls. Delivered at Westmoor Community Sports Hall, the project aimed to : increase youth participation in sport and recreation; offer fun, affordable, and accessible pathways into active lifestyles and expand local opportunities for skill-building, teamwork, and self-expression.

The impact extended well beyond the physical skills learned, though this type of regular physical activity is critical for young people to live healthier lives. Participants reported improved confidence and stronger friendships. Families and community members became more engaged, supporting  local performances, and as such, there has been an interest in cheerleading and dance .
