In a world where sustainability is becoming increasingly vital, One Community has supported Scholes Cricket Club in becoming more sustainable, by completing a community-driven solar energy project.
A recent grant of £21,000, issued from the Community Grants Climate Projects fund has allowed the club to install a 12.1kW solar power system, designed to generate 10,485kWh of clean, renewable energy each year.
The new system brings the club energy independence, capturing and storing excess energy for use during non-daylight hours. For the future, this means that the club maximises its use of renewable energy, significantly reducing its reliance on the National Grid.
The benefits of this project extend beyond the club’s energy consumption and sustainability. By putting in the solar energy system, the energy consumption is expected to decrease.
This means that Scholes Cricket Club’s dependence on grid-based electricity will decrease by an impressive 55%! The reduction translates to an annual saving of approximately £8,157, money that can be reinvested into the club’s facilities and programs.
Serving over 1,600 people, including more than 100 junior members, the club plays a crucial role in promoting physical activity and social engagement. The financial savings generated by the solar energy project will directly support the club’s mission to provide affordable and accessible opportunities for all, particularly young people.
