BUMPY is a charity which was established in 1989 as a training, testing and skills centre aimed at young motorcyclists causing a nuisance on wasteland. BUMPY provides education around safe riding and a purpose-built track, so that young bikers can practice their skills legally, with guidance and without causing a nuisance.
BUMPY used their grants from the Dewsbury Moor Fund to transport young people from Dewsbury Moor to their site, where they were educated on important safety information, the rules of the road and basic maintenance practices for the proper upkeep of motorcycles. Both one-on-one and group mentoring opportunities were available to support their learning journey. Using VR headsets, sessions engaged participants in scenarios illustrating the consequences of their actions, focusing on knife crime and gang involvement. This immersive approach offers valuable engagement opportunities, allowing youth to understand real-life implications within a controlled environment.
