Changing local lives together.

During the height of the Covid pandemic, we asked ourselves, what else can we do to help our community? After a bit of head scratching, conversations with local community projects and with the backing of an anonymous donor, we launched Match it. A new and new approach to grant making for One Community Foundation was born! Thanks to the financial backing of that anonymous donor, we were able to work together with 57 local charities. Our promise was to match funding for their fundraising activities up to £10,000! Last year, community projects taking part raised £285,693, every pound was matched by One Community Foundation. A further £66,055 was claimed in Gift Aid. Together, we brought an additional £637,441 of funding to local community projects across the Kirklees area.

Let’s talk about the good we can do together.
We know that the pandemic had devastating effects on local charities, community projects, and ultimately for the people who use the services of those projects. We also know that local community projects are still recovering and adapting to change. While some charities report they have seen income increase dramatically, many more are grappling with significant reductions. The impact of Covid-19 has clearly been different for each charity, and while it’s too early to identify firm trends or conclusions, funding is undoubtedly a major challenge. That is why we are running Match It again.

Let’s change our community together. Match It is One Community’s support fund that makes your donors’ donations twice as impactful. We match exactly what your community needs, putting the money directly into charities and community projects that support the people across the area of Kirklees. We’ll match the fundraising efforts over a 3-month period.

Partnering charities can raise up to £10,000 with Match it and we will match fund every pound you raise. To get you started, we’ll supply you with the ultimate social media starter pack to help you raise as much as you can. The pack includes social media posts, web banners, cover photos, ‘how to’ guides, posters, and so much more. In addition to funding, we are offering a bespoke organisational support package, specifically designed to support the sector. One Community has commissioned Lisa Jagger from Straightforward funding to provide a series of six workshops. All the projects we support will be able to take part in the workshops as we believe this is a valuable part of the Match It programme. All places in the workshops are fully funded by One Community Foundation.

The workshops will support the development of your organisation and include the following six workshops:

• Writing the Strongest Applications in the Shortest Possible Time

• How to Convince a Funder that You Really Do Make a Difference

• Maintaining Momentum – Four Principles of Grant Funding Success

• Practical Ways to Tell Your Story so that Funders Really Listen

• Effortless Productivity for Long Term Success

• Using Free Technology to Track and Manage Grant Applications

In addition, before you start to fundraise, we will be hosting workshops aimed at helping you understand how to use social media and online platforms to tell your story and attract donations. We will also provide you with information about online donation platforms.

The aim of this grant round is to support your organisation with the funds you need. However, we would like you to think about how your project meets one or more of the following:

• Better respond to increased demand on your services or activities. Including partnership working.

• Helping people in our communities to regain their confidence and restart their lives, as the country begins to come out of lockdown.

• Attracting volunteers or enabling volunteers to return to projects.

• Adopting to or implementing new ways of working, (service delivery operationally and digitally).

• Support the sustainability of the organisation.

Sounds great. How does it work?

  1. Complete the online application form by June 24th, 2022. Tell us how you’ll raise the money and what you’ll do with it. You can ringfence up to £10,000 of match funding. Be realistic in your expected fundraising total, but don’t worry if you don’t meet the target that you set yourself, because we’ll still match every pound you raise.

  2. An independent Grants Panel assesses the applications. A Grants Officer will let you know the outcome of your application by July 31st, 2022. If you’re successful, you can kick-start your fundraising activity from September 1st, 2022.

  3. Complete your fundraising by November 30th, 2022.

  4. Tell us how much you’ve raised and provide proof of the total raised – we’ll give you an online interim monitoring form to submit, the digital link will allow you to supply us with the evidence in a secure digital format.

  5. We process your match funding payment which will be paid by January 2023. Once you receive the funds, you have 12 months to spend them on your project.

  6. 12 months from the date of the grant payment, you’ll receive a final evaluation monitoring reminder link via email. You must complete the form within four weeks of receiving the email. We’ll need to know exactly how you spent the match funding and the difference it made. At this stage you will need to provide us with receipts to show you spent the funds on what we agreed the funding could be used for.

Who can apply? To apply, you must meet all the below criteria. • Not have received Match It grants previously – If you applied before and were not successful you can apply again. • Have a turnover of less than £500,000. • Be a registered charity, constituted community project, CIC, social enterprise, PTA, or community benefit society. You must have a governing document, e.g., constitution or memorandum and articles of association that show how your group is managed and be working in the Kirklees area.

Your organisation must be able to provide the following documentation with you online application. • Your governing document. Signed and dated. • Your latest published accounts or if you are a new/small group, please provide projections and/or cash flow. • A document (PDF or Word) with the names and home addresses of your directors, trustees, or management committee (there needs to be at least 3 unrelated people). You will also need to identify who the bank signatories are (there must be at least 2 and they must be unrelated). • A bank statement (no older than 3 months) in your group’s name, this must be the same as your name in your constitution. Please use your organisation name exactly as it appears on your bank statement when completing this form.

Sorry, but we can’t support the following: • Retrospective applications (i.e., the funding of activities that have already taken place or the repayment of money that has already been spent) • Projects that would normally have been funded from statutory sources (e.g. Council or Central Government) • Religious activities or projects that promote religion, although we may fund activities carried out by faith groups for wider community benefit • Political activities. • Projects where the main beneficiaries are animals.
